Vintage Wedding Entertainment – Silhouettes

Keeping your guests entertained is an important part of your wedding day. It’s easy to focus on the evening reception as the time when you will want entertainment, but it’s important not to forget the rest of the day.
I was recently introduced to Alison Russell, an incredibly talented silhouette artist based in London who works her magic at wedding receptions and other social events. Silhouette cutting was a popular tradition during Victorian times, so I love the idea of incorporating Alison’s services into a vintage-themed celebration. Not only would this tie in with the wedding theme, but it would also be a highly original and sophisticated way of entertaining guests during the wedding breakfast.

Alison first learned the art of cutting silhouette portraits from her grandmother aged just 8, and she has since cut portraits for various celebrities including Dame Shirley Bassey, Jonathan Ross, Rolf Harris and Gordon Ramsay, as well as Princess Anne. I am totally in awe of how Alison can create such realistic portraits in a matter of minutes with just scissors and paper. Her work is of an exceptionally high standard, and the pieces would make lovely keepsakes for guests to take home in place of favours.

For more information about Alison’s work and her wedding services, visit her website here.

We are interested in hiring a silhouette artist for our wedding, which will take place on 5 November 2011, The George, Rye. Is this something you are able to help us with ? If so I would grateful if you could send through some very, very good artists email addresses! Look forward to hearing from you.
Many Thanks,
Samantha

I love your silhouette artwork for weddings, I was at a wedding in London, 30 years ago, and Cindi Harwood did the whole wedding, her work and your work look alike. I heard she was married and now goes by Cindi (or is it Cynthia) Rose.
