Posted in A Bride's Perspective, Real Weddings
An earlier blog post has told the story how I’ve fallen into this world of wedding planning – I was one of Helen’s 2011 brides and was lucky enough to be asked to join the team after my big day. One of my first jobs was to write a blog post about why someone would want to hire a wedding planner from the point of view of a bride who’d just used one, outlining the benefits I had experienced from having Helen on board with our wedding preparations and on the day itself.
Although the intervening period since joining the crew has been busy with plans for 2012 brides and the other parts of the job, I had yet to experience a wedding from a planner’s perspective. That was until the crazy ten days which was “Christmas HCW-style”, when we worked on three weddings in ten days.

Well, the wedding’s over and the ground has well and truly been hit with the proverbial bump. My list of thank yous is sitting ominously on the coffee table and I know the place I want to start is the most important one. But how do you summarise everything that the amazing Helen has done in something that fits in a card or goes on her website as a sound bite?

My husband joked during the wedding speeches that the chance to get a word in edgeways was a noteworthy occasion in his life, so you’ll see I’m not usually one to scrimp on words. Therefore, I thought that rather than trying to be pithy and succinct I could convey my thanks in a blog post that truly sets out the wonders of having wedding planner like Helen on your side.

What did you imagine your wedding day would be? Probably there would be a white(ish!) dress, bridesmaids, beautiful blooms, a fairytale romantic setting, a stunning cake, lots of emotions and a cast of thousands? Me too!
As I mentioned last week, my husband-to-be’s views were slightly at odds with this as, having finally popped the question, his idea of a perfect wedding was just a handful of very close family and all done in secret. And so, the first compromise of married life was upon us!

I must admit, being relatively late in life to be doing the whole bride thing (a birthday with a zero is approaching next year) I have had many a chance to sympathise with soon-to-be-married friends about guest list negotiations, parents refusing to make a contribution if you serve goats cheese as a starter (true!), rehashing seating plans and nightmare bridesmaids. I even have one friend who abandoned all plans with two months to go and ran off to get married in St Lucia just to be out of the future mother-in-law’s radar! So I set about embracing Andy’s idea but ensuring that we still had a wedding with all the traditional touches you would expect with more guests.

Earlier this week I posted a feature on Bita and Seun’s wedding that took place in July, and today I would like to share some of the details of the day with you. One of the best feelings for me as a wedding planner is bringing a couple’s ideas to life and seeing all of the details come together on the wedding day.
Bita and Seun wanted a stylish and elegant wedding, and chose a summery colour scheme of green and white with hints of deep purple. This was the original design concept that we worked from throughout the planning process:

Back at the end of July I had the pleasure of organising Bita and Seun’s wedding. As Bita and Seun live in Switzerland they opted for our full planning service, and their limited time in the UK coupled with just 5 months planning time meant there was certainly no time for hanging around with this wedding! It was great to see everything come together so well on the day and to see Bita and Seun so happy.

The start of August signalled the arrival of Julie and Andrew’s wedding in London, and having worked with them since last November we’d been looking foward to this one for some time. The day started with a lovely church ceremony in Norbury and was followed by a reception at Dartmouth House, a beautiful Grade II listed mansion house in the heart of Mayfair. Here are a few photos from the day, taken by the highly talented Yvonne Blume.

With wedding season in full swing the last few weeks have been particularly busy at HCW headquarters, and at the end of July we were at Nonsuch Mansion in Surrey for the wedding of Bita and Seun. Having worked with them so closely for the last 5 months it was great to see everything come together so perfectly on the day. The full report will be on the blog soon, but for now here are a few snippets of the day as captured by the brilliant Lloyd Dobbie.

Katherine and Nic’s wedding (our first of the season!) took place at the end of last month on a beautifully warm and sunny spring day in central London. Katherine is originally from America, whilst Nic’s parents originate from Belgium and Cyprus, so this was a real international affair with guests flying in from around the world in the week leading up to the big day (fortunately the volcanic ash cloud moved just in time!). It also meant there were lots of personal touches reflecting their backgrounds, including Belgian chocolates for favours, a scrummy dessert bar and some highly entertaining Greek dancing later in the evening! I’ll post a full report on the day shortly, but for now here are a few pictures to whet your appetite…
The ceremony in St James’ Church, Clerkenwell…

On Saturday I was privileged to be involved in the wedding of Emily and Tim, and what a beautiful wedding it was to end the year on. As Tim is in the army, the wedding was held at Wellington Barracks in central London, with a ceremony in the Guard’s Chapel and a reception in a large marquee. I’ll have a full report and hopefully some professional photos in the New Year, but for now I thought I’d give you just a little taste of the beautiful festive decorations that were used to decorate the marquee…
The military blue decor was perfectly complemented by the subtle touches of red and green in the centrepieces, place cards and favours.

Back at the end of July you might remember that we were asked to manage Christine and Luke’s wedding day at the Royal Chace Hotel in Enfield. We’ve just got the photos back from the lovely Joe Miles, so I thought I’d share a few shots of the day with you.
