The Design
March is normally the time when the trees burst into life and crocuses, daffodils and tulips start shooting up to give us a welcome array of colour after a cold and miserable winter. But this year spring is certainly taking it’s time to arrive! Last year my March design board was inspired by an explosion of cherry blossom, but this time around I feel that a cooler, minimalistic design is more in order.
The main theme for this board is based on the last cool breezes of winter that catch you unawares when you think it looks lovely and sunny outside! A soft, billowing gown with a beautiful long veil floating in the wind is what I picture in my mind when I think about a wedding at this time of year, with the sun peeping through grey clouds and teasing us with warm rays before it disappears again.
I wanted this design to reflect a gradual change in the seasons – it seems that winter doesn’t want to leave us, but spring isn’t quite ready to put in an appearance! So I’ve opted for a delicate palette of cool whites and greys, with smatterings of pastel pink in the floral arrangements to add a subtle hint of spring warmth. I’d keep this wedding very simple with just a few focal points, like billowing arrangements of gypsophila, making a bold statement. I imagine the venue to be filled with crisp white linen and floaty chiffon fabrics, and I’d use delicately scented candles to add an extra dimension to the monochromatic style.
